The midget B Cowichan Valley Thunder kicked off a busy stretch of games with an appearance at the Richmond Midget Tournament over the May long weekend, where they won three out of four games.
The Thunder opened the tournament in style with a 9-2 win over Semiahmoo, then beat Burnaby 7-3. but followed that up with a 9-0 defeat at the hands of their Island rivals from Comox.
Sitting fifth out of 13 teams at the end of the round robin, the Thunder played a consolation game against Burnaby, again winning 7-2. Game MVPs in Richmond were Sam Baxter, Scott McCaffrey, Ryan John and goalie Miles Brooks.
The Thunder returned to regular-season action last Saturday at home against the Saanich Tigers.
Cowichan had a win and a tie over the teams’ last two meetings, and Saanich was hungry for revenge. The Tigers ended up spending too much time in the penalty box, and the Thunder took full advantage of that, winning 5-3. Nathan Clark, Cole Wright,
Brady Williams, Gavin Spencer and Clayton Raphael scored, with Baxter, Spencer, Williams, Brooks, and Brayden Grantham recording assists.
The midget B Thunder will host Campbell River at the Island Savings Centre this Saturday at 1 p.m. and visit Juan de Fuca on Sunday.
