Bailey Kaario and Christian Stokes scored two goals each and Munroe Renouf earned the shutout in net Sunday as the Oceanside Midget Generals blanked host Juan de Fuca 7-0 in Vancouver Island Hockey League Division 2 play.
Duncan Cairns, Isaac Larocque-Wall and Michael Steward also scored as the midgets (3-2-2) moved above .500 in league play for the first time. Riley MacDonald, Jose Hope and Cairns each collected two assists and Kaario, Jimmy Schworan, Dylan Willams and Stokes had single helpers in the win.
After scoring a single goal in the first period, the Generals poured in three goals in the second and put the game away with three more goals in the third.
The win was a bounce-back following a 5-2 loss to Cowichan in an exhibition game Saturday at Oceanside Place Arena. Cairns and Larocque-Wall each scored for the Generals, who carried a 1-1 tie into the third period before Cowichan erupted for four goals in the third.
The midgets return to Oceanside Place Arena Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. game against Nanaimo. The players and volunteers will then host a fundraising bottle drive Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Parksville Bottle Depot.
Bantams visit Nanaimo
Coming off a 7-3 victory over Peninsula that lifted them into first place in Division 2, the Oceanside Bantam Generals (5-0-1) close out the 2016 portion of their league season with a trip to Nanaimo to face the Clippers Saturday.
Game time is 3 p.m. at Nanaimo Ice Centre Rink 1.
Peewees split
The Oceanside Peewee Generals split a pair of league games last weekend, traveling for a 6-2 win over Juan de Fuca Saturday before returning home and dropping a narrow, 6-5 decision to Saanich Saturday at Oceanside Place Arena.
The peewees (5-3-0), who hold down second place in the Division 2 standings, travel to Port Alberni Saturday to face the Bulldogs in a 12:45 p.m. game at Weyerhauser Arena.
