The Meadow Ridge Knights midget football team improved to 2-0 this season with a 23-0 shutout win over the visiting Vernon Magnums at home at Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School on Saturday.
Trevor Casey hit Joe Schuster for two touchdowns in the win. Conner Henry, Mark Kalmykov and Brock Loewen led the defence to the shut out win.
The midget Knights continue their home stand this Weekend as they host White Rock this Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m.
The Meadow Ridge peewee Gold Knights defeated association rivals, the Blue Knights 32-0, Saturday at SRT. The Gold Knights offence was led by the blocking of Nick Lacroix, Zachary Mayer-Buss and Jacob Petersen. Tyson Phare ran the ball hard, scoring his first touchdown of the season. On defence, the Gold Knights once again kept their opposition off the scoreboard, extending their shutout streak to two games. Cole Leon, Jevon Anutooshkin, and Anthony Tulev controlled the line of scrimmage and pressured the Blue Knights’ quaterback all afternoon.
The offence for the Blue Knights was led by linemen Colby Soolsma, Brandon Goodridge, and Mason Robinson, who all made key blocks for first downs by running backs Liam Cumarasamy and Brayden Hamilton. Defensively, halfbacks Jackson Smith, Mahlon Taylor and defensive ends James Grimason and Riley Celino made key tackles.
The Gold Knights host the Mission 9ers this Saturday at 4:30 p.m., while the Blue Knights are on the road to take on North Langley.
The atom Knights hosted the Chilliwack Giants in their home opener this past Saturday, beating the visitors by a score of 32-7. Knights quarterback Dallas Pattenden connected with halfback Isaiah Cavalli for his first passing touchdown of the season. Tight end Jaxon Smart ran 60 yards for his first touchdown, while half back Ethan Holland crashed through the middle for his first trip to the end zone. Defensive ends Taigan Godin and Mitchell Alcinay focused relentless pressure from the outside, while Brayden Hogarth stripped and recovered his first fumble of the season.
The junior bantam Knights suffered their first loss of the season, as they were shut out 38-0 by the Abbotsford Black Falcons.
Tim Janke debuted at quarterback this week, making a few plays, including a completed pass to Lucas Chapdelaine.
Despite the lopsided score, the Knights defense played well, with Dylan Lacey and Brayden Becler-Cardiff making a number of key tackles, while Micah Cavalli intercepted a Falcon pass.
The junior bantam Knights travel to North Langley next weekend to play the Bears.
