Kelowna tier 2 squad goes unbeaten at Abbotsford hockey tournament

The Kelowna Tier 2 Midget Rockets made it three tournament victories in a row last weekend as the team swept all five games of a minor hockey tournament in Abbotsford on the Remembrance Day weekend to claim the championship trophy.

The Rockets dominated their opposition, outscoring them 38-7 to waltz to the tournament title.

Goalies Jordan Reynolds and Giovanni Sambrielaz each notched a shutout in the tournament as the Rockets have now won three straight events, also winning all five games in their home tournament and at an earlier outing in Jasper.

In Abbotsford, the Rockets started with a 2-0 win over the Calgary Rangers. That was followed up with an 8-4 victory over Mission and a 11-1 drubbing of Ridge Meadows. In the semi-final, the Rockets skated to a lop-sided 11-0 win over the host team from Abbotsford. That set up a rematch with Calgary in the championship game, with Kelowna earning a 6-2 victory.

Nothing helps a hockey team gel faster than an exciting road tournament early in the season. The Kelowna pee wee Hawks experienced this first-hand in dramatic fashion in Aldergrove over the Remembrance Day weekend.

The hard working Hawks went through the round robin undefeated including two games that they tied in the final minutes of the game with the goalie pulled. In the playoffs the Hawks played an intense, tight game and fell just short, losing by a single goal and being eliminated from the tournament

But the final score was quickly forgotten as Hawks fans watched their team congratulate each other for an incredibly memorable weekend of team bonding and friendship.
