Midget Rockets win 2-1

The Okanagan Rockets opened the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League championship series with a 2-1 win over the Giants Friday night.

The Okanagan Rockets opened the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League championship series with a 2-1 win over the Giants Friday night at the Burnaby Winter Club.

Game 2 in the best-of-three series went Saturday night.

The Rockets received goals from Tanner Browne (1st) and Liam Finlay (10th), both of which came with the man advantage.

The Rockets outshot the Giants 15-14 in a scoreless first frame.

In the second, Browne got things going 2:30 in as he banged in a powerplay goal from the slot.

The Giants pulled even on the power play at 11:34 of the 2nd before Finlay restored the Rockets’ lead.Rockets goalie Brendan Barry made 41 saves, improving to 5-1.

“It’s nice to get the first one, but as we learned last weekend against the Valley West Hawks, the second win is much tougher to come by.” said Rockets’ GM David Michaud.
