The Vernon Home Building Centre Midget Vipers salvaged a 2-2 draw with the host Kamloops Blazers in Midget Tier 1 hockey play Friday night.

The home team came out flying, popping in the game’s first goal at the 30-second mark.

After a scoreless second period, the Vipers finally got the equalizer in the third frame on a 5-on-3 powerplay. Stephane Richard tipped in a Nick Higgs shot from the point.

Kamloops regained their one-goal lead about four minutes later, but the Vernon boys kept pushing, and with 52 seconds left in regulation, Carl Main recorded the tying goal, assisted by Reed Cashato and Braden Gilowski.

Netminder Tristan Quiring was stellar in making 38 saves for the Vipers.

The Snakes entertained a California travel team in exhibition action Saturday morning at Civic Arena.
