Nanaimo’s midget Tier 1 boys’ hockey team, the Pacific Boat Brokers Clippers, qualified for the Island final last weekend with a pair of wins, 9-2 Saturday on the road against the Victoria Racquet Club and then 6-3 against Cowichan Valley on Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Lee Orpen scored a hat trick in Sunday’s clinching game, Garrett Dunlop had two goals and Dan Foglietta had a goal and two assists. Tyson Kleisinger was the winning goalie. The team will face Comox in the Island final starting Sunday (Feb. 20) up Island.
Also playing in the Island final are the Ramsay Lampman Rhodes Mid Island Extreme midget A girls, who are on the road at Victoria this weekend, and the bantam A girls, who are on the road at North Island.
Other local rep teams are playing round-robin playoff games this weekend, including the Nanaimo bantam Tier 1 boys who host the Victoria Racquet Club Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the NIC. The peewee Tier 1 Clippers face Cowichan on Sunday at 1:45 p.m. at Frank Crane just before the peewee Tier 2 Clippers take the ice against Kerry Park at 3:15 p.m. at the Crane.
