The best young curlers in the Lower Mainland are ready to let the rocks fly in Mission on Saturday and Sunday.
The Curl BC U18 Lower Mainland men’s and women’s playdowns come to the Mission Granite Curling Club to crown the regional champion.
A total of five women’s and six men’s teams are set to battle it out.
The men have draws at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, and then 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The women have draws at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Competing in the men’s division are: Langley’s Team Moore, Delta Thistle’s Team Kwok, Royal City/Cloverdale/Coquitlam’s Team Sato, Langley/Victoria’s Team Tardi, Royal City’s Team McCrady and Royal City/Peace Arch’s Team Simpson.
Hitting the ice in the women’s division are: Delta’s Team Daniels, Royal City/Delta Thistle/Tunnel Town’s Team Taylor, Peace Arch’s Team Holland, Coquitlam/Cloverdale/Chilliwack’s Team Drexel and Royal City’s Team Bowles.
The top two teams from both the men’s and women’s divisions will then advance to the 2017 BC U18 Curling Championships in Nanaimo, which run from March 16 to 19.
This year will mark the first year that Curl BC has changed from the former BC Juvenile Curling Championships U17 to U18 in order to align with the creation of the Canadian U18 Championships beginning in 2017.
The BC U18 Curling Championship provincial winners will then qualify for the Canadian U18 Championships, which occur in Moncton, NB from April 17 to 22.
