Mission Record
It’s been a red-hot start to the season for the Mission Secondary Roadrunners senior girls volleyball team.
In regular-season play, the team is a perfect 2-0 with a pair of decisive three sets to zero matches.
The Roadrunners opened the season on Sept. 26 against the Abbotsford Christian Secondary Knights, winning all three sets by a score of 25-18. They backed that up with another win over Sardis on Oct. 12, winning 25-10, 25-14 and 25-10.
Mission sits in second place in the Tier 1 Girls East division early in the Fraser Valley Volleyball Commission regular-season standings.
It’s not just regular- season action that the Roadrunners have excelled at, as the team has a pair of strong showings already under their belt at local tournaments.
Mission dominated at the Cascades Cup at UFV in Abbotsford on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, not dropping a set the entire weekend at the senior girls invitational tournament.
The Roadrunners beat McNair Secondary, Credo Christian and Abbotsford Traditional in round-robin play, and then beat ACS in the quarterfinals, Kelowna’s Mt. Boucherie in the semifinals, and Richmond’s McMath in the finals.
Earlier this month, the team competed in the 30-team Camosun Chargers tournament in Victoria and placed ninth overall.
The tournament, which ran Oct. 7 and 8, saw the Roadrunners defeat St. Margarets (25-6 and 25-6) and Guildford Park (25-13 and 25-15) in round-robin action, but then fall to South Delta (16-25, 25-21 and 12-15) in the playoffs. They then defeated Crofton House (25-18 and 25-18) and Dover Bay (22-25, 25-16 and 18-16) in the consolation bracket to place ninth.
Mission next hosts Yale Secondary on Oct. 25.
