Mission Secondary athletes excelled at the Fraser Valley Track and Field Championships in Coquitlam, which wrapped up on May 19.
Bryce MacKenzie was one of the more successful Roadrunners at the event, taking home a gold, two silvers and a bronze.
MacKenzie tied for gold with another teammate Michael Lambert for top spot on the senior boys high jump, as both Mission residents leapt a height of 1.90 metres. The pair both cleared 1.90 on their first jump, but couldn’t push past the 2.00 metre mark.
MacKenzie scored silver in the senior boys long jump, with a final distance of 6.65m. He also teamed with Mission’s Connor Haig, Jacob Walters and Mathew Reitsema in the 4X100 metres to pick up silver. The bronze was earned in the triple jump, where he leapt 12.71m.
The aforementioned Walters also had a stellar day at the event, earning a trio of silver medals. In addition to the silver with the relay team, Walters picked up silver in the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles.
The only other Mission athlete to earn gold was Charlotte Daignault, who posted the top time in the senior girls 1500m race walk. She beat out teammate Amelia Janes by four seconds in the win.
Mission’s Hannah Lambert also impressed at the event, scoring a silver medal in the senior girls 600 gram javelin throw. She threw a distance of 31.38m.
Next up for Mission athletes is the BC high school track and field championships, which run from June 1 to 3 in Langley.
