MMA will feature two hometown favourites

Nanaimo Impact MMA's Eli Wyse will fight on the undercard of April 27 show headlined by Nick Hinchliffe.

Two Nanaimo Impact teammates will be stepping onto the Battlefield.

The Battlefield Fight League mixed martial arts card on April 27 features Nick Hinchliffe in the main event, and it also includes Hinchliffe’s Nanaimo Impact MMA teammate Eli Wyse on the undercard. Wyse will be taking on Morgan Bentley.

Wyse is an amateur fighter, but Impact trainer John Punt said his pupil is a step above most amateurs.

“His striking is fierce,” said Punt. “His mental game is probably his strongest attribute. He’s probably mentally stronger than most any of the fighters that I have trained. He’s a warrior.”

Battlefield promoter Jay Golshani said Wyse is undefeated in Vancouver but has yet to win in his hometown.

“So he’s trying to get his first win in Nanaimo on our show, so it’s a big fight for him,” Golshani said.

The Battlefield Fight League 15 event will be held at the Port Theatre.
