Williams Lake’s Kayla Moleschi and the Canadian Women’s Sevens team are on the road to Rio and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The team is in Clermont-Ferrand, France, for the final leg of the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series and will face Japan, Russia and New Zealand in pool stages Saturday.
Canada currently sits fourth in the series standings with 54 points, six behind third-place England and 10 points behind second-place New Zealand.
Australia currently leads the series with 74 points and needs only a top-six finish in France to clinch its first-ever series title.
Moleschi said she’s excited to finish off the series with a bang.
“With the Olympics fast approaching it gives us another chance to work on our systems and some new things against top series teams,” she said.
“This has been a great year of rugby for us and we have constantly been building and learning.
“I’m pumped to hit the pitch with these girls this weekend and showcase our hard hitting, fast paced, smart and exhilarating game.”
This marks the first time since the first-ever series event in Dubai in November of 2012 that New Zealand and Canada have been paired together in pool play.
