Half the time, twice the fun. That’s how the Atmosphere Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race Series originated.

“There were other existing adventure races,” said Bryan Tasaka. “We just decided to do a one-day version of the two-day Sea2Summit adventure race that went from Vancouver to Whistler.

“In 2000 we decided, ‘Hey let’s put one on in Duncan. We did, it was a lot of fun, and we went from there. We’re now in our 13th year, and 12th year in the Comox Valley.

“Normally we change venues just to change it up a bit, but the Comox Valley is so great. It has everything we need and has always been so popular that we’ve been here for 12 straight years. We plan to keep it here as long as the support from the community is here and the registration numbers stay solid.”

MOMAR’s success is reflected in participants’ feedback in Get Out There magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. It has been voted Western Canada’s Best Adventure Race, Best Post-Race Party and Best Event T-Shirt for the last four years. It also won Best Race Kit in 2011.
