The Monashee FC shocked Eagle Homes Nation of Domination 4-1 in first-round North Okanagan Soccer League playoff action on a wet and stormy Wednesday night in Salmon Arm.
NOD (9-4) opened the scoring on a flick header early in the first half.
After some fancy dancing by Alberto Lopez of Monashee, he was taken down about 30 yards out. Center back Ryan Sharp stepped up and found a low hole to blast the ball through for the equalizer.
Lopez was then taken down again after some great moves and once again Sharp cracked a corner, top shelf, for the lead.
Things got heated after that and early in the second half, Nathan Whitling started to exploit the NOD back line and causing them lots of trouble. Creating numerous chances, Whitling fed Lopez, who put it home short side to put the game out of reach.
With time running down and Whitling and Lopez constantly pushing at the tired Eagle Homes’ defence, Lopez earned a lucky bounce that trickled through the keeper’s legs to complete the scoring.
NOD kept pushing but no time was left for them to make any ground.
The North Enderby Timber (9-4-1) were leading Peters Tirecraft (2-12-1) 2-0 at the half before the game was cancelled due to heavy rain and lightning Wednesday night at MacDonald Park.
The game will be replayed Monday, Aug. 4 (6:30 p.m.) at MacDonald.
