University of Victoria rowers hit the CARSA performance gym for the Rowing Monster Erg / Indoor Championship Sunday, Jan. 24. The fun runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the Vikes rowing from 12 to 2 p.m.
Women’s field hockey brings the annual UVic Indoor Tournament to Mc-Kinnon Gym, with Vikes games scheduled Saturday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. versus Shawnigan), 2 p.m. vs. West Van and 5 p.m. vs. the Islanders. Sunday, Jan. 24 brings cross-over matches from 8 to 11 a.m. with the tournament finals at 1 p.m.
In men’s field hockey, Jan. 24 features a Vikes double-header with UBC Thunderbirds, on the Field 1 turf at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Coming up next Friday, Jan. 29 is the Shoot for the Cure basketball event, also at CARSA.
The boys and girls of summer will soon be back and for Oak Bay families eying the coming Little League season, registration is now open for National and Beacon Hill Little Leagues. Both parks will also have in-person registration from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 23 and 24 and again Jan. 30 and 31 at their park clubhouses. National has an additional evening session scheduled for Feb. 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Local lacrosse fans can revisit the Victoria Shamrocks’ Mann Cup celebration Saturday, Jan. 23 with Fan Appreciation Day at the McCormick Meadows community showhome on Braeburn Avenue. Take pictures with the Mann Cup, meet Shamrocks players, coaches and alumni, find Mann Cup merchandise and game-worn jerseys, plus season tickets. Current and 2015 season ticket holders welcome from 10 to 11 a.m. with all welcome from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free but the Shamrocks request a non-perishable food item donation for local food banks.
Oak Bay ball hockey fans are invited to hit the floor with the Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey Association this spring. The registration deadline has been extended to Jan. 31 for players ranging in age from five to 18. Also coming up for the Junior division (1997 to 1999-born) is an opportunity to try the sport for free, 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29 at Eagle Ridge arena. The HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens rugby tourney is at Westhills April 16 and 17. Tickets are available to early bird registrants, with tickets for the general public available Jan. 25.
