Monsters wreak havoc at speedway

Monster trucks, Modified racers make season debuts at Saratoga Speedway

The Monster Trucks of Port Orchard, Washington’s Straight Up Racing team ripped up Saratoga over the May Long weekend. In their first visit to the track in the 2015 season, Rockstar and California Kid hit some amazing jumps on both days of the weekend doubleheader, with plenty of very fast donuts mixed in.

The I.M.C.A Modifieds also made their first appearance of the year to highlight the action on Saturday, accompanied by the Crash to Pass cars, Hornet cars, Roadrunners and the Bomber cars on Sunday.

In Saturday’s main events, Ryan Guest topped the Roadrunner class after winning the heat race; Chris Beaulieu took advantage of a blown transmission by leader Travis Stevenson on the final lap to claim the 35-lap Modified main; and Sheldon Hopp claimed his second straight Crash to Pass main by holding off Jeff May in the 20-lap feature.

In Hornets action, Kevin Lawrenuk swept to the A Main win while Rowland Westra took the B Main.

Sunday night saw more of the same tight racing, with even more monster truck action on display.

Another 15-lap Roadrunner main saw Ryan Guest take home his third straight main win, once again holding off Stevenson to take it home.

Westra held off Ashley White to repeat in the Hornet B Main and Daryl Cahill snapped Lawrenuk’s two-race winning streak by claiming the A Main.

Hopp was another repeat winner, taking the Crash to Pass division for his third win in four weekend races.

Extra laps … This weekend marks the second round of Drifting and Drag racing at Saratoga Speedway. Time Attack, a new event to Saratoga, will also be on the card on Saturday. Two weeks ago the track drew 11 Drifters and 18 Drag racers take to the track, with another great field expected this weekend.
