Just when you thought spring may show up for a day or two, winter strikes again. Skiers and snowboarders are not complaining about it at Mount Washington, which currently has the deepest snow base in Canada.
The stats on snow to date: 1422 centimeters of total snowfall this season is the fourth deepest snowfall total in resort history. The mountain received 425 cm of snowfall in March, which resulted in the second deepest March in resort history.
The current snow base is sitting at 674 cm — great for spring skiing and if you feel like getting airborne this weekend, the Big Air Bag is back at Mount Washington.
This time it’s open for skiers and boarders to practice their skills without fear. A custom jump will be built on lower Whiskey Jack, right next to the Canada Snowboard Freestyle Team training site.
The Canadian National Snowboard Team is training at Mount Washington this weekend. The team will perfecting their bag of tricks in the Slopestyle discipline at the mountain’s Afterdark Invitational competition site until April 9.
Members of the National Team as well as provincial up and comers are on Vancouver Island to fine-tune their skills and continue their snowboarding development.
The Big Air Bag will be open Sat., April 7, noon to 3:30 p.m. and on Sun., April 8 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You must sign waiver at top of course to hit a jump and if you are under 19 you must have a parent sign a waiver. The free of charge with lift ticket.
There is plenty of Easter fun on the hill Sun., April 8 with Dairyland Dodgeball. The Easter bunny will take part in the fun with a chocolate milk hunt and Easter crafts for the kids. On Mon., April 9 its the Klondike Scavenger Hunt.
On April 14 it is the annual dummy downhill and on April 22 the last day of the season it is the ever popular and chilly slush cup.
