More than 650 riders hit the dusty trails

This year’s race was once again sold out, with approximately 500 riders in the main six-hour race

The 16th annual Salty Dog 6 Hour Enduro Mountain Bike Race, one of the largest of its kind in Western Canada, is in the record books.

Beautiful weather and dusty but good trail conditions on Sunday made for lots of fun and plenty of dirty smiles by the end of a big day of racing on the trails of South Canoe.

This year’s race was once again sold out, with approximately 500 riders in the main six-hour race, 100 under 15 racers in the three-hour race and 80 kids racing in the Salty Pup race.

Riders pushed themselves to the limit in hopes of winning much coveted pies, cookies and Salty Dog-trademark woodallions.

This year’s event saw some great performances by out-of-town and local competitors.

Stand-out local, six-hour-main-race performances included Aidan Hepburn, 15, placing tenth in the men’s solo sport under 40 division.

Sue Doray and Kyla Sherman raced to first in their team category.

The duo of Laura Hepburn and Alison Howatt placed second in their team category.

Placing third in their team category was Ben VanBergeyk and Calvin Hepburn.

James Hardy and Konrad VanVarsveld claimed the fourth spot in their team category.

The teams of Doris Mills and Monica Nelson, Seth VanVarsveld and Andrew Nash and Tom Peasgood and Lee English raced to sixth place in their respective divisions.
