With five straight wins, the Greg Morgan rink from Kitimat slid smoothly into first place in the Terrace Legion Bonspiel last weekend.
With 34 teams competing this year, the spiel was smaller than usual, but still had teams from Kitimat, Smithers, Houston and Prince Rupert as well as Terrace.
Greg Morgan, along with Ryan Pigeon, BJ Houghton, and Chad Stevenson did not lose a game, and slid into first with a smooth victory in finals, shaking hands in the seventh end when the Scott Rigler rink folded.
Scott Rigler, Kevin Barton, Brian Rigler and Rob Stach are from Terrace and have been curing for only a few years. They took second place in the A, having won four straight games to make finals.
In the B event, the Cheryl Wyatt rink claimed first place, after losing one game, and then winning three straight to make finals against Dino Diana.
It was a close game between friends, and Wyatt (with Nancy Reniero, Sandra Hoffman, and Jacquie Munson) was up by four by the seventh end.
They ran Diana out of rocks to take the win, giving second place to Diana (along with team mates Heather Joseph, Stephen Emery, and Shannon Lopushinsky).
Victory was won in the C event by the Warren Copeland rink, with Copeland, Dave Reniero, Dave Block, and Tony deViveiros. The team won all their games except one, which dropped them into C, and in finals they shook hands in the 7th end with the Tyler Cage rink.
Tyler Cage (with Andrew Weisner, Cam Harris, and Sheldon Paulson) took second.
The D event finals were very close, going to an extra end after a tie between Kitimat’s Pete Dziuba rink and the Lisa Bulleid rink.
Dziuba scored two in the final end to slide their way to first and Lisa Bulleid took second. Bulleid plays with Kathie Simpson, Joan Kucharyshen, and Nancy Ross, and the rink was the regional women’s winners, heading to provincials mid-February.
With Dziuba taking first in D was Franz Dziuba, Landon McWilliam, and Larry Blackmore.
