Morningstar duo win 52nd annual Royal LePage Ladies Tillicum at Sunnydale

Determined not to let the down-pouring rain deter them from enjoying the 52nd annual Royal LePage Ladies Tillicum Golf Tournament, 112 golfers took to the links early Saturday morning at Sunnydale Golf Course.

The rain eventually subsided and by the end of the Partnered 2-Ball event the sun was shining. Sally Dobler and Josee Deslauriers of Morningstar Golf Club turned in a score of 74 and as the 2016 winners were presented with the Royal LePage Low Gross Trophy.

Second low gross winners were May Mitchell and Raylene Roberston from Crown Isle with a score of 80. The team of Karen Kloske (Morningstar) and Bev Byerley (Sunnydale) was third, Judy Berkeley and Carolyn Walker (Sunnydale) were fourth and Judy Pouliot and Eveline Shaw (Crown Isle) finished fifth.

The Eagle 97.3 FM Radio trophy for first low net was won by Sue Fulkreth of Crown Isle and Shari Dalager (Players Club) with a score of 57. Sara Smith and Pat Belanger of Comox Golf Club were second with 66.

Jenny Lavery and Leslie Bird (Sunnydale) were third, Lois Westbrook and Penny Wagenstein (Sunnydale) were fourth and Pat Rudolph and Marjorie Sheldon (Sunnydale) were fifth.

Skill prizes were won by: Long Drive #7 – Karen Kloske (0-22 Hcp) and Janet Phillips on #14 (23+Hcp); KP #3 – Jan Dafoe (0-22 Hcp) and Leslie Bird (23+ Hcp); KP #10 – Linda Broadbent (0-22 Hcp) and Pat Costello (23+ Hcp); KP #15 – Eveline Shaw (0-22 Hcp) and Janet Edwards (23+ Hcp);

KP #17 – Jan Dafoe (0-22 Hcp) and Beth Broomfield (23+ Hcp); Squiggly Line – Darlene Clark; Sand #2 – Marlene McDonald; Sand #4 – Josee Deslauriers; Water #11 – Linda Vanderhalven; Water # 16 – Kathy Watson and Any Tree on #8 – Barb Dixson.

Sunnydale members Maylene Friesen and Crystal Friesen played the tournament for free as their entry fees were reimbursed as winners of the Early Bird Draw.

The tournament got off to a fun start Friday evening with an individual skills competition comprising of a long drive event, best poker hand, break the “glass”, and  putting and chipping contests.

Kathy Allison from Gold River was the overall winner, followed by Joan Rallison and Barb Dixson, both of Sunnydale, and Sunnydale’s Lois Westbrook was the Wild Card winner.

Friday night concluded with a ‘Life’s a Beach’ event complete with music, great appetizers from Becky and Mark of Comox Valley Catering, a wine tasting courtesy of  40 Knots Estate Winery and great deal of socializing.

Saturday afternoon concluded with the trophy presentations, prizes for all winners and participants and a tasty dinner provided by Comox Valley Catering. The Sunnydale Ladies Golf Club thanks all the volunteers, sponsors and Tillicum Committee members, especially chair Kathie Reid, for making the 52nd annual Tillicum a great success.
