Mosquito AA hosts finals

Little league team is ready for Island championships

Oceanside’s Mosquito AA rep team is out to a great  start in its exhibition season, as they prepare to play hosts to their Island finals.

In action up at Springwood Old June 30 for their second double header — the week before they earned a split against AAA Comox — the Oceanside Reds swept the Salt Spring Islanders 8-6, 17-12.

“They’re coming along really well,” Reds’ coach Andy Macdonald said after, adding his squad of 13, 9 to 11 year olds “are really starting to play together as a team. Their hitting, fielding, and pitching is all coming along,” he said, pointing out “we have a fairly solid roster of pitchers; we have been throwing a different pitcher out there every inning, and they have all pitched very well.”

Oceanside has three rep teams this summer including another Mosquito team in Single A, as well as a AA Bantam team. Rep teams are required to have at least 12 players on their roster.  Victoria, Duncan, and Nanaimo typically field Single-A and AAA teams. Based on the number of teams in their house league, Oceanside is a AA association.
