The Victoria Eagles and Triangle Baseball Association welcome fans of all ages this weekend to the B.C. Baseball Mosquito (under-11) AAA Tier 2 championships in Colwood.
The Eagles, a regional rep team, have five players from the West Shore-based Triangle association, with the others from the Carnarvon and Peninsula associations.
Triangle president Chris Cox, whose core group of volunteers has been getting things ready to host the tournament down at the Juan de Fuca site below the rec centre, says the Eagles could well be in the thick of things this weekend.
“They’ve played about .500 this season, but it depends on how badly they want it,” he says.
The 10-team tournament includes teams from Duncan and Campbell River, six Lower Mainland squads and the Rutland Rockies from Kelowna.
A skills competition happens tonight (July 30) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by opening ceremonies. First games of the day are at 8:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Eagles play round robin games Friday at 1:30 against Port Coquitlam and 6:30 p.m. against North Langley, and the same times Saturday against Rutland and Tsawwassen, respectively.
The tournament semifinals happen at 10 a.m. Sunday with the bronze medal and gold medal games set for 2 p.m.
