A team of multi-sport athletes from Penticton competed in Bellingham’s Ski to Sea race on Memorial weekend placing seventh.
It was the highest finish for Tim Bell, Chris Neenan, Kevin Cutjar, Dave Matheson, Tyson Bull, Stuart Rahkola, Tom Evans and Don Mulhall in the multi-leg race that includes cross country ski, downhill ski, running, road bike, canoe, cyclocross, and surf ski. They finished in six hours, 25 minutes, four seconds. The race starts near the top of Mt. Baker, and finishes in Bellingham Bay with close to 320 teams, and 2,560 athletes.
The field included athletes from the Olympics, World and National Championships. Along with placing seventh, they were second in the competitive Masters division. They missed first place in Masters by 13 seconds.
“As a team, we keep getting faster,” said Tyson Bull, team organizer. “This year we took 35 minutes off last year’s time and we’re still second place Masters team. It speaks to the depth of the teams at this event.”
The team plans to attend the 2018 Ski to Sea race.
