The two-time defending B.C. A champs look to be in fine form early in the 2015 high school girls soccer season.
The Immaculata Mustangs are coming off a second-place showing at a 15-team tournament co-hosted last weekend by Immaculata and KSS.
The Mustangs reached the final against Burnaby’s St. Thomas More where the dropped a tight 1-0 contest on Saturday afternoon at KSS.
Immaculata opened up with a convincing 6-1 victory over Fort St. James. Emma Johnson, Ashlyn Day and Teaghan Wallace each scored twice.
In Game 2, the Mustangs blanked Cranbrook’s Mt. Baker 4-0.
Emma Johnson scored twice while Ashlyn Day and Teaghan Wallace added singles.
In the semifinal, Lindsay Lalach and Erin Graham scored in a 2-1 victory over the Mt. Boucherie Bears.
“Overall the tournament really served as a jumping off point for the season as things start to get kicked into high gear,” said Mustangs coach Paul Freire, who is assisted this season by Todd Penkala and Kayla Ungaro. “It allowed for some much needed playing time for some of our players, while providing me a chance to try some things out.”
In the bronze medal game Saturday, the Bears needed a shootout to edge the KSS Owls 2-1.
Next week, the Mustangs will attend the B.C. Catholic Schools tournament in Port Coquitlam.
