Mustangs clinch division title – on to the Valley Championships

The Princess Margaret Mustangs defeated the George Elliot Coyotes to win the division title

The Princess Margaret Mustangs are off to the Okanagan Valley Championships on a winning note.

After racking up their first undefeated season, the squad won both their South-Central Okanagan B.C. Boys High School division games including a 82-75 victory over the Lake Country George Elliot Coyotes Wednesday at Maggie.

The AA Valley championships take place Feb. 20 in Vernon.

In the final division playoff game the Coyotes and Mustangs traded the lead throughout the fast-past contest.

Maggie got off to an early start however the visitors rallied to take a lead of their own before the hosts pulled ahead, nailing down a 47-36 halftime advantage.

Top players for the Mustangs included Carson Drobe who had game-high 26 points adding several assists and three steals.

Matt Olsen had his best game with 19 points, one assist, some steals and a blocked shot. He had four successful free throws at the end of the game to secure the win.

Other Mustangs who contributed were Adrian Orioli, 15 points and Rowen Brown, 12 points.

In the latest rankings, Princess Margaret and the Langley Christian Lightning remained tied for 10th spot in the province.

Winners of the Valley tournament will go on to the provincial championships.
