The Princess Margaret Mustangs senior girls basketball team shook off some rust Friday as they cruised past the J.L. Crowe Hawks from Trail, 67-26.
The matchup kicked off the Mustang Mania tournament, which was also the first time the Mustangs played a game in their own barn.
After ending the first half with a 27-17 lead, Mustangs coach Dave Killick said it was nice to score and get on a roll. In the third quarter, the Mustangs outscored the Hawks 18-4, and 22-5 in the final quarter.
“We executed better in the second half and just settled down,” said Killick, who admitted it was a bit strange to play at home for the first time. “I think everyone got to play. Defensively we played well. We tweaked our offence a little bit.”
Killick praised the efforts of Madison Winter defensively. Offensively, the scoring was spread out, but Killick said that Callan Cooper and Megan Admussen-Blair played well to generate scoring. He also liked the performance of Danielle Ruocco in the open court.
