Mustangs win double header

The Cowichan Valley Mustangs AAA Bantams took home two victories last weekend, winning both games in a double header with Abbotsford on May 7.Mustangs coach Ken Diewert said solid pitching was the key to the double victory at the Chemainus ball field, which included a 5-0 blowout in the second game.“We did all the little things that count and we executed them very well,” he said. “It was a good performance.”The Mustangs held a 3-0 lead in the first few innings of the first game before Abbotsford gathered steam. The Mustangs were able to clinch their lead with a run at the top of the eighth inning for a final score of 4-3.“They made a couple of errors which allowed us to hold on,” Diewert said.Notable performances came from Zach Diewert, who pitched the second game, and Robert Busch, the starting pitcher for game one. Busch also went three for three at bat in game two. After a 5-7 loss to Abbotsford on April 30, the double header victory was welcome.“It was great,” Diewert said. “But any victory is a good victory.”The Mustangs’ record stands at four wins, eight losses to date. They next take on Victoria Sr. Eagles at Carvarvon Park Wednesday, May 11 before taking on Vancouver on May 28.
