The Nanaimo Buccaneers are rolling, and more importantly, they’re rounding into playoff form.
The city’s junior B hockey club has won six straight games and 12 of its last 13 and has beaten all the league’s top teams during that span.
“We’re heating up and hopefully we’re heating up at the right time coming into playoffs,” said Dan Lemmon, Buccaneers coach. “Right now it’s been a full team effort and that’s the best thing going forward. You’re going to need 20 guys come playoff time.”
All the Bucs have been having fun coming to the rink these days, and the win streak is special for some of the vets who have been through ups and downs. Nolan Richardson, a final-year junior, said the biggest difference this year might be the way the group has bonded.
“We all love playing and we all want to win it, so we’re working together so well and we want the two points every night,” he said.
GAME ON … The Buccaneers host the Kerry Park Islanders on Thursday (Jan. 26) at 7:15 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre and then visit the Campbell River Storm on Friday.
