BC Ringette is pleased to announce that the 2012 National Ringette League champion team, Lower Mainland Ringette League (LMRL) Thunder, will be in Courtenay/Comox for a series of demonstrations and training sessions on Saturday, Sept. 15.

In partnership with the Comox Valley Ringette Association, BC Ringette has scheduled a special series of free, public Come Try Ringette demonstration events featuring the newly crowned national champions.

The team’s visit to Courtenay/Comox will include an inter-squad exhibition game to kick off a Come Try Ringette event at the Comox Valley Sports Centre in Courtenay at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 15. A team training session will also be held at the Glacier Gardens Arena at CFB Comox at 9 p.m. For Come Try Ringette event details, visit www.cometryringette.ca.

The Thunder won the 2012 title at the national championships in Burnaby in April by defeating the Montreal Mission in an exciting final. It is the first time a British Columbia team has captured a national championship at this elite level. The team includes a number of national team stars that have represented Canada at the World Ringette Championship level as well as international ringette stars from Finland.

The National Ringette League (NRL) is the showcase league for ringette in Canada and strives to be the premiere women’s sports league in the country. The league has 19 teams participating in two conferences – a Western Conference with six teams and an Eastern Conference with 13 teams.

The objectives of the NRL are to move ringette into the mainstream of Canadian sports activity, encourage greater public awareness of ringette and  to create better competitive opportunities for athletes.
