Kelowna Skating Club’s Emma Bulawka made it on to the podium at the Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championships.

Bulawka, 13, turned in a silver medal performance in the novice women’s event at nationals, Jan. 16 to 22 in Ottawa.

She opened the event with a sixth-place finish in the short program, then catapulted her way to a medal thanks to a flawless free program that included four triple jumps.

At the Junior level, Kelowna’s Olivia Gran and Mckenna Colthorp finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the 18-skater field.

Meanwhile, in the senior dance event, long-time Kelowna Skating Club member Haley Sales and her partner Nik Wamsteeker finished in fifth place. Their top-five result earned a spot on Skate Canada’s national team.

This is the premier figure skating event in Canada, as top skaters from across the country compete for national titles, podium berths and international team spots.
