Curling Club hosted its annual Mixed Valentine’s Bonspiel earlier this month and by all accounts no hearts were broken, but plenty of fun was had.
The A-event final featured the Dave Needham rink facing off against Larry Gardner and his crew, both from Quesnel.
The draw began with Gardner taking a single point in the first end and the stealing another point in the second end.
The tide turned in the third end as Gardner’s draw crashed and left Needham with a draw for four and a 4-2 lead.
Gardner took advantage of the hammer in the fourth end and put up two more points on the board to pull even.
But Needham and his rink of Sherri Needham at third, Shane Yamamoto and second and Penny Yamamoto at lead, kicked things into high gear and collected five points in the fifth end.
Needham stole another point and handshakes came out after seven ends, with the Needham rink taking the 10-4 win.
In the B-event final, Grant Wawryk’s rink matched up against the Rick Cindric rink, in another all-Quesnel final.
Heading into the fifth end the teams were knotted at 4-4, but Wawryk stole three points and picked up another three in the seventh end for the 10-5 win.
The C-event final saw the Rick Fewster rink of Prince George take on the Roger Kaleta rink from Williams Lake. Fewster won this one going away with a 7-2 score.
Sponsors for the event included Design Flooring, Cariboo Fire Protection and Quesnel River Pulp.
