Still looking for their win of the season, the Nelson Junior Babe Ruth Diamondbacks took on the powerhouse Trail Nationals at Queen Elizabeth diamond on Saturday for a double header.
Fuelled by the strong pitching of Braeden Zarikoff, the Diamondbacks played their best baseball game of the season in the opening game of the afternoon.
A timely hit by Jayden Maida in the second inning drove in two runs to give the Diamondbacks a 3-1 lead. And despite pushing the lead to 4-1 in the third inning, the strong Nationals team chewed away at the margin. In the sixth inning the Trail squad took the 5-4 lead which they did not relinquish.
The second half of the double-header was a lopsided win for Trail.
