The fundraising campaign led to the purchase of a second-hand, four-person canoe

Successful fundraising in 2016 has allowed the Nelson Kayak and Canoe Club to purchase a second-hand, four-person canoe from the Calgary Canoe Club, which was then revamped and repaired by Hellman’s Canoes.

We wish to thank the City of Nelson, the Regional District of Central Kootenay, Nelson District Credit Union, IODE Nelson, Calgary Canoe Club and Hellman’s Canoes. Thank you to youth leaders Reece Boulanger, Heather Potkins, Tessa Timmermans, Anna Milde and Bailey Stefani who were active in fundraising efforts, and event planning.

We are happy to announce that the credit union, Walmart and the Nelson Lions Club have kickstarted our campaign for a two-person kayak by providing a total of $1,500.

A K2 allows experienced members and new members to be in the same boat promoting leadership and providing opportunities to para-athletes.

The paddling season starts May 1 and we are looking for new members! Youth paddling will occur three days per week, ages 10 and up. Our coaches have completed course work under the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) including: Canoe Kids and Level 1 Competitive Coaching, while para athlete, school and summer camps are under development.
