Lucas Farnum and Noah Jury each kicked their way to a championship at the Calgary Cup karate tournament on March 18.

Farnum, competing for the Nelson Kyokushin Karate Club, repeated as champion for the second straight year in the boys aged 10 to 12, 100-pounds and over knockdown division.

Jury, meanwhile, moved up in age and weight class to win his second consecutive title as well in the boys aged 10 to 12, 55-to-70-pound division.

Jury’s sister Mia also competed up in weight class and competed mostly against boys. Despite being the smallest competitor in the division, Jury won two fights and finished fourth.

Cayden Farnum, in her first competition, won two fights en route to a fourth-place finish.

The team, led by sensei Keith Klughart, included 14 athletes as well as coaches Steve Kirby and Jordan McCleod.
