The Nelson Leafs traveled to Castlegar on Friday night and beat the Rebels 5-2 to earn its fourth win in a row.
The high-flying Leafs’ squad came out hot, scoring three goals in the first period. Linden Horswill got the ball rolling for Nelson, putting the puck behind the Castlegar netminder four minutes into the contest,
Austin Lindsay and Brandon Sookro also scored in the openng period to give the locals a 3-1 lead after one period.
Castlegar’s Jeremy McNeil got the only goal of the period for the Rebels.
Castlegar got the only goal of the second perions, narrowing the deficit to 3-2 thanks to a marker by Aaron Petten.
The third period was all Nelson as Sookro and Adam Hodge tallied markers to end the scoring.
Brad Rebagliati stopped 20 of 22 shots for the win.
The first-place Leafs will now host the Spokane Braves at the NDCC tonight. Game starts at 7 p.m.
