At the end of April, Nelson’s Rhythm Ropers hosted the Provincial Championships for jump rope at L.V. Rogers secondary.
The club had all its teams qualify for the Nationals to be held in Abbotsford, May 16 to 19.
The following are the ages and jumpers who qualified to jump in the eight team events.
The eight and nine year old team of Jessica Fitchett, Conor Jackson, Tanner Jackson and Sarah Robertson placed first overall and set three national records;
The 10 and 11 mixed team of Nadine Lehr, Skyla Short, Sophia Peloso, Aaron Spurge and Angelia Thomson placed first overall;
The 10 and 11 girls team of Kaitlyn Fitchett, Willa Morrison, Maya Pierson. Lauren Robertson and Amy Schellenberg placed second overall;
The 12 to 14 girls team of Abby Jackson, Lauren Hartridge, Alicia Montpellier, Ella Peloso and Emily Schellenberg placed fifth overall;
The 15 to 17 mixed team of Joscelyn Koehle, Aimee Montpellier, Michelle Oudemans, Bradley Spurge and Kalina Spurge placed first overall;
The 18 and over combo team of Abbotsford and Nelson with Tessa Exley, Lillea Goian, Shannon Osak, and Faith Stewart had first place finishes as well.
Individual qualifiers:
In the master events several of the Rhythm Ropers also qualified to compete in the four individual events at Nationals.
So congratulations to the following jumpers for making their way through to Nationals.
Jessica Fitchett, Conor Jackson Tanner Jackson, Sophia Peloso, Sarah Robertson, Angelia Thomson, Aaron Spurge, Willa Morrison, Maya Pierson, Lauren Robertson, Abby Jackson, Joscelyn Koehle, Kalina Spurge, Bradley Spurge, Emily Musa, Tessa Exley and Shannon Osak.
The local club also had some jumpers in the 12-14 category who had great moments.
There were 39 competitors in this category. Highlight performances included Michelle Oudemans, who placed second out of 39 jumpers in 12-14 freestyle, Emily Schellenberg placed fifth out of 39 jumpers in freestyle and Kalina Spurge placed first in 30-second speed and second in three-minute speed out of 39 skippers and Abby Jackson who was fourth in consecutive power.
Even more impressive was that Abby and Emily are at the younger end of this age category.
During the synchronized large group routines the Rhythm Ropers also had positive results.
Novice large group of eight and nine year olds placed first;
Junior large group of 11 and unders placed second;
Senior large group of 11 to 18 year olds placed second.
Many of the Rhythm Ropers jumped personal bests and hope to better those scores at Nationals.
