Twin sisters Brooke and Ashley Sonnichsen were among the Nelson athletes who won big at the BC Summer Games last week in Cowichan.
The pair, who compete for the Nelson Reflections synchronized swimming team, won gold in the girls age 11-to-12 duet. They also dominated two other categories, with Brooke taking gold in figures and silver in solo and Ashley winning gold in solo and silver in figures.
Nelson athletes won a total of 11 medals at the provincial event.
Matti Erickson finished with gold medals in the boys 800-metre and 1,200-metre track races.
Cloe Comstock took silver in the girls vaulting division D canter combined equestrian event.
In canoe and kayak, Nelson’s Tess Nuttall and Erica Potkins won silver in the girls C-2 500 train to train, while Carson Van Horne and Nathan Gaffran scored a bronze in the boys C-2 500 train to train.
On the greens, Nelson’s Cameron Bibby-Fox and Brendon Makeiv were part of the Kootenays team that won bronze.
