The North Enderby Timber brushed back Salmon Arm Courvas 3-1 in North Okanagan Men’s Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field #3.
The first-place Timber (10-2-1) opened the scoring against their arch-rivals six minutes in when Corey Wallis took control of the ball on the left flank.
Wallis fired a pass in the direction of Brent Poulsen. The Courvas defender attempted to intercept but bobbled the ball and coughed it up to Poulsen who took several touches before rifling a left-footed cracker from 22 yards out to beat the keeper bottom left.
Just two minutes later, the Timber converted again after a fancy give and go between Wallis and Graham Ross. Wallis received the pass, touched the ball past a defender, broke in on goal from the left wing, and curled the ball with his right foot to the short post.
In the 32nd minute, the Timbermen got a spectacular goal from center midfield scoring ace Devin Janke. He danced from the corner flag towards the goal and around two defenders before pulling out his lob wedge and dropping the ball just under the cross bar, far post.
Courvas were awarded a controversial penalty kick in the 76th minute after a foul was called on youngster Bryn Knauf. Keeper Danny Stein guessed right but just missed the ball to give Courvas a freebie.
“We had strong play by all,” said NET stopper Chris Ovens. “Anytime we got in trouble, we played the ball safely backwards and built momentum from there. Our scoring started from the back line, and from there, we utilized the entire pitch.”
Concept Physio of Vernon pulled out a 5-3 win over the host Salmon Arm Outlaws.
The 0-10 Outlaws added a couple of new players to their roster and came out on fire, catching Concept Physio off guard and grabbing a 2-0 lead minutes into the first half.
Concept Physio managed to find their stride and built up a 4-2 lead on goals by Justin Mundziakiewiecz and a hat trick by goalie-turned-striker Mitchel Wolsey. Concept Physio (5-6) should have put the game out of reach numerous times, but couldn’t convert any of the breakaways they were able to generate.
The Outlaws cut the lead to one on a scramble in front of the Concept net. With 10 minutes left, the Outlaws were awarded a penalty shot, but missed the net. Minutes later, Shane Whitley sealed things with a shot from 35 yards out that dipped just under the crossbar.
The Davidson & Company Dynamite FC shut down the Revelstoke Stallions 2-0 at Marshall #5.
Torin Hampton and Bryndon Buckham scored for the Dynamite (6-3-2), who got a superb showing from their defence in the second half, in the face of gale force winds, as Revelstoke pressed.
Vernon’s visiting Monashee Surveying bowed 4-1 to Salmon Arm’s Nation of Domination Eagle Homes.
Alberto Lopez scored for the Surveyors (4-6-1). Eagle Homes improved to 7-4.
