North Enderby Timber topples Monashee Surveying 5-1 in North Okanagan Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field #1.

The North Enderby Timber celebrated the fourth of July by stuffing Monashee Surveying 5-1 in North Okanagan Soccer League action Wednesday night at Marshall Field #1.

NET welcomed back Brent Poulsen with a Sleeman’s Man of the Match performance as he scored two beautiful goals. He opened the scoring in the 10th minute after volleying a cross from birthday boy Colby Buckham. Buckham used a smart first touch to deke past Chandler Marsh before finding Poulsen at the penalty spot.

NET went ahead 2-0 at 23 minutes after Graham Ross played a through ball to a streaking Corey Wallis. Monashee keeper Pete Solymosi got a good piece of the ball but it slowly trickled over the goal line.

Three minutes later, a foul inside the 18 led to Jobie Waughman penalty goal and a 3-0 lead. With five minutes left in the first half, Poulsen capitalized again after pushing the ball past a couple defenders and neatly placing a curling ball over Solymosi into the far post, top corner.

Brodie Couch capped the Timber offence with 20 minutes remaining with a 25-yard, bar-down cracker.

Rodney Goodchild finally responded for Monashee with five minutes remaining. A loose ball was cleared out of the 18 by a Timber defender and struck Goodchild in the head. The ball popped up and snuck just under the post.

NET (6-2-2) controlled the majority of the play and only gave up a few chances to Monashee, playing a calm, smart game. Monashee dipped to 4-3-3.

Monashee gave props to Solymosi, who stayed positive while NET kept peppering the net.

Independence Day fireworks also showed up at Marshall #4 as the Hi-Pro Sportswear Camels FC ambushed the Salmon Arm Outlaws 7-1.

The 1-8 Outlaws made it difficult for the 5-3-2 Camels to impose themselves early on. It took about 20 minutes for the fuse to ignite when Keenan Jespersen raced past the Outlaw defence onto a through ball and slotted it passed the diving keeper.

Within five minutes, Khiran O’Neill pressed into the box from right wing, and after a return pass from Jespersen, slipped it into the net from 10 yards out.

Confidence was high with the orange team, but the Outlaws stepped up their play and started creating some chances. After a shot from the right wing beat Camels’ keeper Sean Campbell, Damian Adams cleared it off the line only for the ball to rebound off Keefery Joyce’s back to the waiting striker who converted from six yards out.

In the second half, Ryan Campbell, trying his luck up front, waited for support to arrive from Trevor Rachwalski, who in turn made a square pass inside to Fabrice Fanfani. Fanfani turned inside, around one defender, skipped by another and drove a fierce shot from outside the box. Father Phil Fanfani acknowledged the skill with a wry smile.

Jespersen picked up his second from the penalty spot after being taken down in the box.

Nick Pantaleo then delivered a ball over the defence for Nathan Whitling, who took a one-touch before smashing it into the corner. Fanfani picked up his second by stripping the Outlaws’ keeper and chipping the ball into the net from long distance.

Andrew Pecnya rounded out the attack from an O’Neill pass in the dying moments. Ben Osborn and Brian Arquilla played solid as fullbacks, supporting the wing play throughout the game.

Turn-Key Controls lost 3-0 to the host Revelstoke Stallions.

Turn-Key (5-4-1) came out strong in the first 15 minutes but were unable to convert on any of their chances before falling behind 1-0 on a well-placed free kick.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Controls squad were unable to mount a comeback in the second half, with the best chance going to Evan Moore, who beat the 5-2-2 Revelstoke keeper but not the right defender who stopped a clear goal with a hand ball in the box which resulted in a red card and missed penalty kick from Turn-Key.

Concept Physio and Davidson & Co. Dynamite battled to a 2-2 draw at Marshall #2.

The Nitros (2-7-2) opened the scoring in the first half and Concept equalized when Axel Chinyanata scored on a penalty kick in the second half. Mike Conlin made it 2-1 Concept a little later.

Davidson scored in the 89th minute when a defensive clearing deflected off a Davidson player right to the open striker who pushed it past keeper Riley Spraggs. Concept is 0-7-3.
