Race the Ridge has a new home for its April 29 time trial course on Barnston Island.
The new venue adds more local flavour to a race that already includes the town core of Maple Ridge, say organizers.
A five-minute ferry ride will take cyclists to this “idyllic rural island, which lies in the middle of the Fraser River and offers a nine-kilometre flat, paved road which circumnavigates its perimeter,” said Barry Lyster.
The island is home to a handful of large farms, a Metro Vancouver Park and the Katzie First Nations.
The ferry landing is only minutes from Highway 1 and South Fraser Perimeter Road.
“As an organizer, I am always looking for new and unique places to host bike races. When you include this race alongside the Hatzic Valley Road Race and the Maple Ridge Town Core Criterium, I believe it is the strongest line-up of courses offered in the 15-year history of Race the Ridge,” said Lyster.
Race the Ridge will be run as an omnium, or as individual races, with the majority of prizing going to the omnium. A full tech guide is now available for the races.
Registration is still open, and closes at 6 p.m. on April 27.
