Surrey runners have one more event to add to their calendars this year, now that the inaugural Surrey International World Music Marathon is set for late summer.

The new run, hosted by the Surrey International Marathon Society, will be held Sept. 30, with full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon and eight-km distances available, and also a Kids Fun Run.

The start/finish line for the marathon is set for Central City, and runners will then set out through North Surrey, along 108 Avenue, down all the way to Bear Creek Park and Green Timbers Park, before returning along Fraser Highway.

The marathon will also feature what organizers are calling “cultural music miles” as musical performances will be staged at each mile along the route, allowing local performers and cultural organizations a chance to showcase art, music, food, costumes and more.

Additionally, the marathon will coincide with The Wellness Expo, which runs from Sept. 28-30 at Central City Plaze.
