Six swimmers excel at Lower Mainland meet in Chilliwack

Jaya Castillo of the Delta Sungod  Swim Club has qualified for the B.C. AA Championships in Victoria in June.

The 16-year-old achieved a qualifying time in the 50m freestyle at the Lower Mainland regional meet in Chilliwack April 20-21.

Castillo was one of six swimmers from the Sungod club to compete in Chilliwack, and all sixth had a successful weekend.

Castillo reached five finals at the regional meet, placing fifth in the 100m freestyle, sixth in the 50m and 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley, and was seventh in the 100m back stroke.

Reece Landry, 10, broke the Sungod club record in the 400m individual medley for the 10-and-under boys group. Landry finished in 6:17.32 to win one of his four gold medal. He was also first in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 100m back stroke. He added a silver medal in the 100m freestyle, and was fifth in the 50m freestyle.

Castillo, Young Ye and Maddison Lupien all swam personal best times.

Ye, 12, won a gold medal in the 100m back stroke, took silver in the 200m butterfly and 100m freestyle, placed fourth in the 200m freestyle, fifth in the 400m freestyle and was sixth in the 400m individual medley.

Lupien, 13, placed fourth in the 200m freestyle and 400m individual medley, and was eighth in the 200m individual medley.

Noah Landry, 13, was a gold medalist in the 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle. He also won bronze medals in the 200m back stroke and 50m freestyle, and added fourth-place finish in the 100m freestyle.

Nick Kidd, 15, won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle, took the bronze medal in the 200m butterfly, was fourth in the 200m back stroke, sixth in the 100m back, and eighth in the 200m freestyle.
