The boys U15 club volleyball team proved their competitive ability in a recent Battle of the Borders tournament in Kamloops.

With 12 teams in U15 and U16 mostly from the Lower Mainland, the Northwest U15 boys bumped through what coach KamSiemens says was a successful tournament, winning two games and taking two very narrow losses.

“The boys played and represented Terrace well,” said Siemens, one of three coaches for the team.

“We came away knowing that we are able to compete competitively at a higher level and [we] look forward to what provincialswill bring.”

They beat Kootenay in two quick sets in the tournament opener, dominating the second set with a 25-3 win after Travis Frankserved a 17-point streak.

They lost in three sets to the U16 Element team from South Delta, struggling with serves and dropping the third set 4-15.

But the boys recovered to claim the victory over KVC Clutch from Kelowna in the next match.

Their results placed the boys in the top two of their pool and advanced them into tier one, where they battled two very closematches against Prince George U16, and against Vernon Sky.

They narrowly lost both games in the third set, 15-13 both matches.

“The goal of this tournament was to qualify for the top tier, which the boys accomplished,” said Siemens.

Next up, the boys will compete in provincials May 5-6 in Abbotsford.
