Human Powered Racing is teaming up with SEAPARC to bring a family-oriented triathlon program to the Sooke area.
A comprehensive swim, bike and run program, Human Powered Racing Sooke will run out of SEAPARC Leisure Centre on Monday and Wednesday evenings, beginning Jan. 16.
Members of the Victoria-based Human Powered Racing were at SEAPARC Leisure Complex last weekend to unveil the new program.
Rob Dibden and Mike Neill are the coaches
For years, Human Powered Racing has run separate programs for youth and adults. This is the first time both programs will meld.
“Sooke is a growing community, and there’s an opportunity for a program like this to flourish,” said Dibden, who has coached for more than 15 years.
“We’ll have an adult team and a youth team that will practice concurrently to make it easy for families to participate together.”
The program runs from January to August and will offer levels from beginner to elite.
“We believe that triathlon is a great sport for both adults and youth that promotes an active, healthy lifestyle that can be maintained for a lifetime,” Dibden said.
Human Powered Racing will also offer a masters swim program with the adult team for people who don’t bike or run.

What is a triathlon?
A triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines. While many variations of the sport exist, triathlon, in its most popular form, involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances.
