The Chilton Regional Arena in Port McNeill could soon have a green Zamboni machine. At the Regional District of Mount Waddington board of meeting July 19, Administrator Greg Fletcher told the board of directors that staff have developed a proposal to buy an electric Zamboni.
The electric machine would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and operational costs.Staff are currently looking at internal funding, fund-raising and grant applications to pay for the machine.
When the process is further along, it will be brought back to the board.”We are looking at a price range of $140,000 to $180,000 to cover the cost of the purchase and any associated capital to make the transition,” said Fletcher in a later interview. “The wide range relates to how the power systems are installed.”
