It was another tough weekend for the Columbia Valley Rockies as they lost three games including two against division rivals.
The weekend started with a Thursday night matchup against the Fernie Ghostriders who are one of the top-ranked teams in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The Rockies played a solid first two periods against the Ghostriders and the scored was tied heading into the third.
The third period was moving along and the Rockies were holding on but could not pull out a win after giving up two late goals. The final score was 5-3 for Fernie.
The Rockies then came home for the second game of the weekend against the North Okanagan Knights.
The Rockies never seemed to have their legs in this game as both teams started out playing some sloppy hockey.
After an even first period the Rockies jumped out to a quick lead in the second but could not stop the charging Knights who went on to score five unanswered goals in the last two periods of the game. Overall the game was a chippy affair that saw two major dust-ups in the third period. The Rockies may not have won the game but they definitely won two battles as Mike Vaughn and Kevin Dunlop both held their own in two separate fights.
In the end the Knights won 6-2.
The last game of the weekend took the Rockies on the road where they would once again be burned by a familiar face. The Rockies jumped out to a first period lead after goals by Tye Moses and Tryg Strand in Kimberley.
This would be where the Dynamiters took over and it was one-time Rockies Darrell Boldon who helped bring down his former team.
Through the second and third period Kimberley would go on to score four goals against the Rockies with Boldon being in on three of them. Kimberley won the game 4-2.
The Rockies next home game is on January 28 against Creston valley Thunder Cats.
