Nelson will be well represented at provincial soccer tournaments next month.
Nine teams have qualified for the various events set to run July 7 to 10 at different locations in BC. The under-13, 14, 15, 16, and 18 boys teams will compete as will the U13, 14, 16 and 18 girls teams.
The U16 boys are on a hot streak heading into provincials. The team has won four gold medals so far this season, including three over the last few weeks. After taking gold at the Invermere Clash of Titans tournament in May, the team took first place at the BC Soccer Kootenay Zone Play Downs.
Finally, the squad finished with three wins and a tie to capture the Cranbrook Sam Steele Tournament last weekend.
“It’s been a great stretch for us, and the boys have been playing very well,” said coach Lyle Hill. “Now, we look forward to the provincials in a few weeks, and hope that we can keep our level of play high, and see what results we can get.”
The U13 boys also left Cranbrook with gold around their necks.
The team opened with a 3-1 loss to Kootenay South, but rallied with a 7-0 rout of Columbia Valley, a 4-0 shut out against Cranbrook and a 5-1 win against Canmore.
