No close games as b-ball bounces back

The Nanaimo District Islanders and the Wellington Wildcats senior AAA boys won by blowout scores in league play Tuesday.

Two all-local matchups were contested on the court Tuesday, but neither ended up being close games.

The Nanaimo District Islanders defeated the Woodlands Eagles by a blowout score in senior AAA boys’ action at Woodlands Secondary School, and the Wellington Wildcats senior AAA boys reached triple digits in a blowout win at John Barsby Secondary.

Will Fridriksson, NDSS guard, said his team worked hard and played its systems well, even when the game wasn’t close.

“We keep up the effort, keep up the play and keep running our stuff,” he said. “It just stays the same; it doesn’t matter what the score is.”

Statistics weren’t properly recorded.

In Harewood, Wellington’s top scorer was Brooks Branchi with 20 points. Lucas Pugh scored 17 and Alex Staniforth added 15.

Several road games scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled – the Wellington Wildcats senior AA girls, the NDSS Islanders senior AA girls and the Dover Bay Dolphins senior AAA girls all got snowed in that night.
