100 Mile House’s peewee rep hockey team nearly came from behind to reach the finals in a tournament in Revelstoke last weekend, but had a late goal called off and settled for third place.
The Primal Electric Milers played five games in Revelstoke, Nov. 29-30.
Against Penticton, Ethan Sanders won MVP with two goals and one assist, while Nate Wolstenholme, Sam Chabot, Robert Waldner and Cole Allan also scored goals in the win.
100 Mile House jumped out to a early 3-0 lead against Kelowna with goals from Chabot, Colby Glen and Wolstenholme. Kelowna had it tied at three by the end of the second. Wolstenholme, who won MVP, would get the lead back in the third only to see Kelowna tie it again 4-4.
Against Kamloops in the third game, Owen Pincott scored the 3-2 game-winner with 15 seconds left and won MVP.
Primal Electric played a Calgary team – Lake Bonavista – in its fourth game, needing a win to move on. Allen, Wolstenholme, Pincott and Jace Myers spotted 100 Mile a 4-1 lead after one period, and Sanders, Myers and Ethan Garland would add goals for the 7-3 win. Goaltender Ryan Balbirnie won MVP.
In the semi-final against Revelstoke, Primal Electric came back to tie the game in the third period, erasing a 4-1 deficit. Pincott scored twice and Sanders would tie the game at four.
It appeared Sanders would give 100 Mile the lead, only to have the goal called off, explains manager Cale Tessaro.
Revelstoke scored the winner, plus found the empty net, for the 6-4 win. Sanders won MVP.
“The boys played hard and never quit all weekend,” adds Tessaro.
