Nominations are now open for the North Cowichan/Duncan Sports Wall of Fame Class of 2017.
Dedicated to honouring athletes, coaches, teams, administrators and builders who have contributed to the rich sports history in North Cowichan and Duncan, the Wall of Fame recognizes individuals and teams who have achieved at a high level or made major contributions to sports locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.
“If you know of an athlete or team, coach or administrator that has excelled in their sport or made a significant contribution to our community through local athletics, we invite you to submit a nomination package,” said Sports Wall of Fame Nomination Committee chair Kate Marsh. “We invite nominations not only from individuals, but also clubs and associations.”
Nominations will be reviewed by the nomination committee, and recommendations will be made to North Cowichan council. Categories include athlete, team, coach, and administrator/builder. Nomination forms are available online or by calling Terri at 250-746-3169, and the submission deadline is April 28.
To date, 40 individuals, families or teams have been recognized. The plaques honouring the inductees can be seen on the Wall of Fame located in the lobby of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre.
